THE CUBAN BRIDGE @ The Burlington Discover Jazz Festival 2016

Yesterday,  WEDNESDAY June 8th had the immense pleasure to film one of the best Students Big bands I’ve seen in the last 10 years : The PLATTSBURGH HIGH SCHOOL BIG BAND !

The conductor is a young student who also plays piano and trumpet, digs on the history and is an accomplished MC.

The PHSBB repertoire covered some of the highest picks in the history of JAZZ and SWING, the Music of Count Basie and Duke Ellington, Afro-Cuban Jazz with a good version / effort on Chano Pozo’s Manteca, Funk and Samba.

In these live shows, the community enjoys and recognizes the important role that educators can play in a young musician’s development. The players were connected, they sounded solidly, there were admirable solos from two trombonists, and the guitarist, one of the drummers pushed hard, and also shared their seat with the vibes. One of the girls saxophonists also made a good Song.

I firmly believe that JAZZ EDUCATION must maintain the link with the societal elements that fueled AMERICA’s art form.

The audience comprised mainly of students’ parents and walks in was awesome; they also filmed and gave a bow to the new Jazz warriors. The RESULTS of this footage will soon be seen at MMCTV Channel 15 in Richmond, Vermont, USA, where we are proud to have thrown another log on the fire. JAZZ LIVES !
