THE CUBAN BRIDGE radio show @ WWPV 92.5 FM “THE MIKE”
SUNDAY June 26th, 2016
Tribute to Ella Fitzgerald “The First Lady of JAZZ”
In the last three weeks, I put my ears in charge of selecting Songs that had to do with the ELLA FITZGERALD WORLD. A compilation of The European Union manufactured in England and Holland in 2007 was my history book. The Songs are all part of the great album that is and will always be “Ella and Louis”. Then, I began looking for version of those endless Super Hits.
On air on SUNDAY June 19th and the 26th we dedicate this constellation of voices and instrumentalists to those who crave their innocence of romance from the yesteryears.
Thanks to all the musicians, composers, arrangers, producers for all their hardworking and the retro music lovers who support our transmissions since FEBRUARY 2010 @ WWPV 92.5 FM “The Mike” which are millions through internet !
STREAMING IN DEMAND is a good thing guys, we can’t get enough of the BIG BAND ERA, reason why there are always so many Songs played by these ensembles.
I especially give and send my love and appreciation to all the radio contacts who still providing me with the best music on earth. Also to those musicians, who I have never met in person, but become fans of our efforts in the last 10 years living and transmitting from Vermont airwaves.
YESTERDAY, was a special day to comment and enjoy all these beautiful SONGS related to ELLA, LOUIE, SARAH, BESSIE, BILLIE, ETTA, BETTY, NAT KING COLE, SINATRA, BENNET, BAUZA, GRACIELA, THE MAMBO KINGS, LENA HORNE, JOSEPHINE BAKER, GLENN MILLER, THE ELLINGTONIANS, BASIE, THE DORSEY BROS, J.J. JOHNSON, RAY ANTHONY, FLETCHER HENDERSON, THE CHICK WEBB ORCHESTRA, PEGGY LEE, ROSEMARIE CLOONEY, CAB CALLOWAY, BENNY GOODMAN, … and countless others, for their legacies and phrasings.
Special and many thanks to singer, actress and jazz visionary RANEE LEE and The Canadian Jazz Giants for their album DARK DIVAS – that was the point of departure for this Tribute. More than a simple music album it is a history book, and a fabulous production on stage, then brought successfully to the recording studio. Also many thanks to JUSTIN TIME RECORDS for supporting LEE’s concept 16 years ago.
To singer KIM NAZARIAN – world known to JAZZ fans as a founding member of NEW YORK VOICES in her first solo release “SOME MORNING” (2015) ft. renowned names in JAZZ history. Kim and her husband-trombonist JAY ASHBY’s version of ROBBIN’S NEST popularized by ELLA FITZGERALD and BONEOLOGY written by J.J. JOHNSON added more fuel to the fire to create this radio show with their mash up of two different melodies over the same changes honoring their vocal and trombone heroes. .
THE MUSIC NEVER ENDS, … wrote Michel Legrand and The Bergmans in one of their beautiful Songs. Check the whole playlist thru our website wwpv.org A Part III is on the process for a new radio show. Thanks for having us.
