Dear friends,

This is the playlist of our radio show TH CUBAN BRIDGE @ WWPV 92.5 FM  “The Mike”, yesterday,  Sunday February 26, 2017 during 4 hours of Great Music !.

In our music selection we tried to combine some of the most inventive and original music Groups, Jazz soloists and Vocalists and the result was a complete delight of our multi-national audience which voted 101 Hits in our web.

The students at The Dion Family Students Center were also having a great time, we could see them Swinging and moving their necks and bodies in every Song.

We took 5 fundamental albums, to celebrate FEBRUARY is BLACK AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH in the US, so we rendered Tribute to many of the creator of  Americ’s Art Form : JAZZ.

  1. CANTALOUPE ISLAND  Our theme for presentation since February 2010. Cuban saxophonist Jesus Fuentes with his Santo Tomas Connection Group in CANTALOUPE ISLAND – a composition of Herbie Hancock.

Composed by Rafael Lopez – This is a Cuban classical Guajira  brought back to life by pianist CHUCHO VALDES with his Quartet for the album BELE BELE EN LA HABANA  Blue Note Records, 1998

Last Sunday, February 19, 2017, was our main goal to celebrate CHUCHO VALDES new Grammy and we came on air with ALL THE IRAKERES – 5 Generation of Pulsating Rhythms. This week we came for more and included some vital recordings.

Mr. Valdes sidemen are Alain Perez (basses and vocals), Raul Pineda (d) and Roberto Vizcaino “The Commander of Cuban Percussion” in his self-conceived set.

7) LESTER’S TRIP TO THE MOON (PAPER MOON)

By singer – lyricist  EDDIE JEFFERSON “THE GODFATHER OF VOCALESE”.

The contribution of Mr. Jefferson – to the development of VOCAL JAZZ,  though literally unique, has remained for years in obscurity. Yesterday afternoon, we brought light to EDDIE JEFFERSON via The Uptown Vocal Jazz Quartet, RICHIE COLE  and their sidemen with two albums dedicated to THE MAIN MAN.

9) WE announced that these radio shows dedicated to pianist Chucho Valdes and his new Grammy Award would be converted into an IRAKERE REUNION 2017,  via our radio show The Cuban Bridge @ WWPV 92.5 FM  “The Mike”and here’s one of them.

Multi-instrumentalist JAVIER ZALBA in his album BARITONCHA recorded in Havana, Cuba in 2o06 and featuring his Friends of Temperamento Group and  very special guests as Lute Master BARBARITO TORRES in “BARBARITO’S DANCE”  (a Cuban country dance)

Mr. Torres became an applauded World Stringer after his solos in the album BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB in 1996, an album that marked an endless BOOM of Cuban Roots Music.
