Daniel Ian Smith about Luis Perdomo

Luis Perdomo The Infancy Project

Courtesy of our friend Daniel Ian Smith – reedman,  educator and leader of THE NEW

WORLD JAZZ COMPOSERS OCTET in MASSACHUSSETTS :

D.I.A.  :  “Was walking down the street on my way to teach a class at Berklee (College of

Music)   yesterday and who do I see standing in front of the 1140 building ?

The great pianist Luis Perdomo.

I’ve been a huge fan of  his playing for many years. Was wonderful to see him and chat

for a minute. I then went to my class (Reharmonization Techniques) and asked how

many  people knew who he was ?

and I think,  only 2 students knew.  So I immediately took out the

new Miguel Zenon  CD  I  have been listening to lately and played a track for them.

Luis is one of my all time favorite players.

He plays with such grace, elegance, deep swing and sophistication. It’s a blessing to have

people like him in this world. Gives me  hope. Thanks for your music and for taking the

time to chat. Hope to have the great  privilege of making music with him someday”.

Thanks to Daniel Ian Smith.
